This urban park project, designed by Nolan Bentley of CSP Architects, is a modern design that combines steel, concrete and wood to blend into the natural park setting. This project involved the construction of three separate day use picnic structures located within Chingacousy Park in the city of Brampton. Each structure consists of a galvanized steel frame supporting CLTs (cross laminated timber panels) which act as the roof system. Each structure also includes cast-in-place board-form concrete features including barbecue areas and benches. This project was particularly challenging as all site work was completed in winter. Weather and water management were an ongoing challenge. However, completion during off season was required to allow for spring opening.
